Goal-Chasing Intro Verse
SPEAKER_00Losing myself and finding my strength came to the conclusion that I want it all. Feeling that pressure of tryna do better. I wanna reach heights, but too scared to fall. Too scared of failure. Way more scared of feeling regret. I'm not even trying, that's terrifying. I understand that chasing my goals, I bury my clocks because it takes time. I gotta go. I already know. If I wanna grow, you reap what you sow. That be the case. Planting my seeds or water my base. Yeah, I made mistakes. Yeah, I know you grow in your garden, but watch for the snakes. The people that act like you're crazy, but trying this, they fall away. They don't think it's possible, I think it's possible. That is best hate. If they hate themselves, cause they on the shelf. While you create a life that you love.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00A life that you love. Loving the fact to improving yourself. Decided that you wouldn't settle. Decided that you got the drive to do it. The road got bumped and you'll put on the pedal. You go up a level, you turn up whenever it's time for you to go put in that work. I know my worth, huh? I know it ain't gonna be easy, yeah. I know it hurt, but angles for sure. Yeah. Until it put me in this earth. Before I ride in that hearse, I'm chasing my goals. I'm chasing my goals.
SPEAKER_01Love enough back to improving yourself. Decided that you in a settle. Decided that you got the drive to do it to go. Got more foot in the cutter. I'm chasing my goals.

SPEAKER_00Alright, and welcome back to another episode. Thank y'all so much for being here. If you are on YouTube, go ahead and like and subscribe to the channel. It takes you less than six seconds. I timed it, like right now. Just hit the button, like, subscribe. If you own a podcast platform, go ahead and leave me a review. Also, I have given y'all an easier way to support me. You can buy me a cup of coffee. If you know me, you know I love coffee. I drink coffee every single day of my life. Whenever I have it available to me, I will drink it. I love coffee and it's very simple. I left a link in the description. It's a picture of a cup of coffee. Just click on that and buy your boy a cup of coffee. Alright, let's go ahead and dive in. Today, we're gonna talk about how your mind changes your reality. We're gonna talk about how it changes your reality, and in some situations, it literally changes your body. And before I get started, I just want to say that all the things that we're gonna discuss on here are based in science. I'm not just making some stuff up or giving you my opinion on what I think sounds good. I always want to make sure I give you things and ideas that are based on facts. And today, we're gonna be talking about a few things I found from a woman named Allie Crumb, and she is a professor of psych professor of psychology at Stanford and director of the Mind Body Lab. And she did some studies that we're gonna talk about, and it's based on people's minds and how they think and how the way they think actually changed their reality. Things in their lives change because of what they had going on in their brain. So we're gonna be talking about the placebo effect as well as something that's called the nocibo effect and how both of those things change our reality. So, first let me give you a few studies uh that show you some facts as to how the way you think will actually change your body's response. So there was this study done where people were given a milkshake, and they would study these people's physi physiological. I hate this word, I can't say it. Physio physiological. Physiological. Physiological. That don't sound right, is that right? Physiological? Hold on. See, now y'all finally go to Google. I'm gonna type this in real quick and I'm not gonna delete none of this because y'all go hear my struggle. Physiology? Yeah, physiological. Okay. Uh they were studying these people's physiological response to this milkshake. And they gave them two different kinds of milkshakes. One of them was a quote unquote high-fat, high calorie milkshake, and the other one was supposedly more healthy and a low calorie milkshake. And in reality, it was the same shake, no difference in these two milkshakes. Same shake the first week, same shake the second week. And simply based on what they told them, they had a physiological response to these milkshakes. So, what they did is after they gave them the shake, they would draw their blood and they would study it. And check this out in their studies, they find that the ghrelin response, ghrelin is the chemical that makes you feel hungry. They found that the ghrelin response in their blood after they had what they thought was a high-fat, high calorie shake, dropped three times more than with the other shake. Three times more. Basically, their bodies response, or bodies responded as if they had consumed more food, as if they actually consumed more fat and more calories, even though it was the same damn shake. But it wasn't the shake at all, right? It was their minds that made this change in their blood. Now, this don't mean that you can eat fried chicken and pizza and cheese curds every day and tell yourself that this is healthy. I'm eating salad. Ain't no, there ain't no placebo fried chicken, okay? That ain't gonna work. But it just shows you thoughts literally changed their body's physiology. Another study they did it was a study based on exercise and how much exercise you should be getting a day, and they thought about what jobs people have where they might not realize they're getting a decent amount of exercise in based on their job duties. And at the time this study was done, uh the Surgeon General says that the minimum or healthy amount of exercise was 30 minutes a day. 30 minutes of exercise a day to be healthy, and they found a group of hotel housekeepers. And if you think about that job, right? Of a housekeeper, they're on their feet all day, up and down stairs, they cleaning, lifting all the sheets and throwing them in the washing machine, way more than 30 minutes of exercise a day. And they did this study on them and they asked this group of housekeepers, how much exercise a day do they think they're getting in? How physical do you think you are? Well, and also how well do you think you take care of yourself? And on average, these women rated themselves at a three. A three out of ten, which is crazy. So what happened is they separated them and they took one group of women in a room and told them uh that the surgeon general recommends 30 minutes of exercise a day to be healthy, and told them that they are doing way more than 30 minutes a day, that they're actually taking really good care of their bodies, that the work they do is keeping them healthy. And they didn't say any of this to the other group, and they followed up with both groups a few months down the road, and the group they told this to not only lost weight, but their blood pressure dropped on average by 10 points. Their blood pressure dropped on average by 10 points, and it ain't like any of them reported any differences in their diet or their workout routine, none of that. So, what was the difference? It was what they thought. Their thoughts, the way they thought about their situation and their job. Think about that for think about that for a second. They were able to lose weight and drop their blood pressure, feel better about their work, and didn't report any change in diet or exercise. It was the way they viewed things in their lives that gave their bodies the physiological response. And again, no, you can't sit on your couch and say, Yep, I'm burning calories right now. We understand that, right? But what this really comes down to, what this is, which is so fascinating to me, is the placebo effect. And I'm sure you all know what that is, but it's when, let's say, they have a drug and they give half the group the real drug, they give half the group a sugar pill, which should do absolutely nothing. But the folks who get it don't know it's fake, and they think, hey, this drug is gonna cure my illness. And the sugar pill really cures them. But it's not the sugar, it's not the pill, it's the fact that they actually think they are being cured. And through the thinking that they're being cured, they actually cure themselves. And the placebo tests are required, right, when introducing a new drug. And the even crazier part is 33% of all medical healings are a placebo effect. People think that they are being healed, and because they have this thought, they are healed 33% of the time. I don't know about you, but that's crazy to me. Right? And I don't know why people don't talk about this anymore or more than they do, because just by thinking you are healed, it can literally heal you. Just the thought of it. So ask yourself this if I can think myself into being healed, can I also think myself into sickness? Yes. The answer is yes. Hell to the yes. So when folks take a new drug and the doctor tells them about the potential negative side effects, you better believe that those people are more likely to experience those side effects. That's a fact. People who think they have a fever can have a three-degree jump in their temperature. That's a fact. That's a study. You can literally give yourself a higher temperature just because you think you have a higher temperature. Those are physiological effects. And the question is what does this show you? Right? This shows you that the way you think about everything in your life changes you and everything in your life. And I forgot, I forgot who made this quote, but it says, When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at will change. If you change the way you look at your body, your body will change. When you change the way you look at your relationships, they change. When you change the way you look at your finances, everything, your happiness, your joy, your peace, all of these things, they will change. So it's not just the circumstances in our lives that make a difference, but when we think about these circumstances. It's like that story of these two sons, and I've told this on here before. Uh, they both had an alcoholic father growing up, and one of the sons went on to become this successful business owner and entrepreneur, and the other son, he went on to be homeless who was alcoholic. And they asked the successful son, hey, why didn't you become an alcoholic? And he says, Because my father was an alcoholic. And they asked the homeless son, hey, why did you become an alcoholic? And he says, Because my father was an alcoholic. Same circumstances. The difference is the reason their lives were different was because of how they looked at those circumstances, how they looked at those circumstances. We have to ask ourselves, what we have to ask ourselves, what are we thinking about? What do you think about when you think about your past? What are you thinking about when you think about your present? About your future. What are you thinking about when you think about your body, about your relationships, about the people you have around you, about your bank account, everything. Because the way you think about it actually changes that thing itself. And no, you can't sit around and eat bad food all day and tell yourself that you're rich and it's gonna make you thin and rich and wealthy. Obviously, we know that. Of course, there needs to be the correct actions to be taken. Of course, the work needs to be done, has to be put in to change things. But what you tell yourself, your mindset around what you're doing, that's the most important thing. So, no, you ain't gonna eat bad food and tell yourself you're getting skinny, and that's gonna actually happen. No. But what you will do is eat the healthy food and tell yourself you enjoying it, that you're enjoying the new foods that you're trying, the new foods that you're eating. You loving what this food is gonna do to your body for your body. I'm enjoying the fact that this food is making me healthy and making me live longer. And you start to enjoy eating the healthy food because that's one of the biggest complaints about eating healthy, right? We hear it all the time, and maybe you feel the same way, that healthy food just ain't as good as a regular food. Maybe it could be that you just so in love with the taste of the bad food that you won't allow yourself to be in love with the taste of the good food. If you hate the gym, if you tell yourself all the time, damn it, I hate being at this gym. Man, I don't feel like working out today. Damn, I hate my trainer. He always gives me all this hard stuff to do. I can't stand working out. Working out sucks. Well, instead of saying all that, tell yourself how much you love taking care of your body, how much you love taking care of yourself. Remind yourself of how each set in the gym it matters. And how you can acknowledge the fact that yes, this is hard, but guess what? I showed up for myself today. And what you do is you take those things that are gonna help you make these massive changes, right? The eating healthy, taking care of your body, going to the gym, the consistency of working and growing your business, making 100 calls on your sale job, your sales job, to doing more than the bare minimum in Damn Ray, everything you do in life, you take those and you make those things your fuel. And you tell yourself that the positive change is going to come from doing these things. You don't have to love doing all the things, but what you can love is the outcome that will come after you do these things over a period of time. And again, when you change the way you look at these things, the things you look at will change. We get what we're looking for. We get what we're looking for. We have to start realizing the power of our beliefs because your beliefs change your words, and your words change your world. What you speak, the things you say, can and will speak exact existence into your life. Don't say you can't. As cliche as that sounds, as cliche as that may be, because we have heard it a million times, don't ever say I can't. It's really powerful to have that mindset. Never say you can't. It's cliche, but never say it. Instead, we have to get to the mental space of saying, you know what, I haven't been able to yet. Or you know what? I haven't been able to yet, but I will. Or it hasn't happened yet, but I'm working on it. Because your words have power. Just like me right now, working on this um hip-hop musical, hip-hop play I'm writing. It's been challenging, it's been hard, it's been stretching me, and I've been reminding myself and giving myself grace that you know what, man, you ain't never done this before. You've never won wrote a play. Hell, you've never even wrote an album. And you're writing a hip-hop play called The Black Album. It's a play and an album at the same time. Two things I ain't never wrote before in my life. And here I am writing it. One, it's taking longer than I thought it was gonna take. Two, it's more challenging than I thought it was gonna be. Duh. Duh. I've never done this. What I'm not doing is telling myself that I can't. Because I know I can. I'm just having to learn. I'm having to go through this um area of stretch and growth and figuring out what works, figuring out what don't work, and just understanding and learning how to write a hip hop musical because I've never written that. Right? And instead of telling myself I can't, I'm telling myself I'm learning, I'm telling myself, I'm figuring out as I go, I'm telling myself, I'm making myself stronger as a writer, as an artist, as a creative, which I am. And you better believe I am gonna finish it. I'm actually, you know, I was going over my stuff uh just today, and I'm real close. I'm like, if I had to guess, I'm gonna have to say I'm probably three-fourths of the way done. I feel like I got a couple of scenes to write, a couple of songs to write, and this thing finna be done, at least the first draft. But again, I never told myself I can't. Even when I felt like I was lost, and I felt like I couldn't, because there was a time I was like, man, can I? Can I do this? Like, did I did I bite off more than I can chew? But I stuck with it and made sure I tapped into my to what I was telling myself, and I erased the word can't from my vocabulary, and I just kept going and telling myself that I am figuring this thing out, and I will. So, my point is your words have power. If you believe it, then that's what you're gonna get. And that goes for everything. Just like with the placebo effect, if your mind can heal your body, just because you believe you're taking medicine that's gonna heal you, you can change things in your life using your words. Telling yourself that you can, telling yourself that it's gonna happen. Use your words to plant it inside your brain and turn that into a belief. And believe and believe and believe. And the whole time, if you have this belief that yes, I will create this business, yes, I will take that next step in my career, yes, I will make this deadline, whatever it may be. If you have that belief and are putting in the action towards making that thing happen and staying consistent, don't you think that's gonna be the thing that's gonna get you over the top? I know it can. You have to use your mind to change your reality, and all that starts with the power of belief. So that's all I got for you today. Again, thank y'all for being here. Uh, please share this message on your social media or with a friend or family member if you thought this message would be helpful for them to uh experience this. Also, like I said, I give y'all a an easy way to support me. Please buy your boy a cup of coffee. I love coffee, I drink it every day. It helps me do these episodes. You better believe when I be planning these things, I be sipping my coffee thinking about y'all. Uh, but let's go ahead and get to this music. So, I did say I am working on this hip-hop play. I'm gonna I'm gonna share with y'all some more of that right now. And let me think, I'm making this decision right now as we talking in real time what song I want to play for y'all. Um, because it's also the part of me that don't want to um give away too much of it, because I think it's really, really good. A lot of it is really, really good. Uh, and a lot of it is also, I feel like, needs more work. But I'm going to share with y'all, let me see. Let me see. Which one of these I'm gonna share with y'all? I'ma share with y'all. Okay, I'ma do it. I'ma do it. It's it's one of my favorite ones. But you know what? I'ma I'ma do it. I'ma share with y'all. The song is called What a Nigga Should Do. So again, if you haven't been listening, or if this is your first time hearing about this project, uh it's a hip-hop musical, and the concept of it is it's called the Black Album. So each scene slash movement slash song is its own separate piece, its own separate thing, and as well as its own separate theme. And the one thing that is a constant is the main character, which is myself, and he is the grio. And the grio represents black, he represents blackness. He has traveled throughout the history of all black, and he's been he's been embodying people throughout the history of black culture, and each scene is him as a different person, still the grio, but in a different life. Um, so in this scene, it's called What a Nigga Should Do. I wrote this scene specifically for me and my homeboys, um, Sap and Mosley, and they're having a conversation about what a black man should do if they ever get pulled over by the police. Uh, the scene is before the song, so you won't hear that scene. What you will hear is a song that comes out of it. And in this scene, the two characters they have different ideas on what they think they should do or different experiences on the way they handle getting pulled over. And the Grio is um basically saying this is what we have to deal with as black folks, as black people, as a culture, uh, as well as addressing the issues on why. And you probably won't better tell all three of them all all three characters because it's just me right now. I recorded all the voices myself. Uh, but you get an idea of what the song is gonna be like. Again, these are what's called wet vocals, meaning it's not um uh I didn't go to a studio and produce this, I just did it. Mainly to be able to hear it out loud for myself so that it is not gonna sound like studio quality. It's just recorded over a B. Anyway, I talked way too much. Let's get to this time. Like I said, it's called What a Nigga Should Do is from my upcoming play, which I will have more info on that as far as it being produced. Fingers crossed, prayers up to God. Um sooner than I thought. Anyway, let's get to it. Uh it's called What a Nigga Should'd Do. Let's ride out. It's a tragedy because these are the life and death scenario conversations our mothers have to have with their boys. A job they can't afford to go unemployed. I can't afford for a cop to feel intimidated and make a judgment call. I'm not puffing my chest. I'm just trying to breathe, that's all. And she can't breathe while she tries to breathe. Can't be done. How many times will a black mother be transformed into God? Having to sacrifice her only begotten son. It's exhausting having to stay woke. And I'm afraid to go to sleep. I might get shot by the police. If you're smart, do it like me. What a nigga should do. Let's see. It's seven at night, he's making the list and checking it twice. Cause he gotta drive. Do rag off seat, upright, seat belt. Bucket, he wanna survive. Not driving too fast, because he don't gotta go fast, because he on time. And if I play it safe, I'll be just fine. He get in this car, somebody but probably think he a star. Because he on cam. Cell phone charged up, dash can brand new GoPro. Bidd'd because he ain't playing. Not lookin' for trouble, but better the bus they bubble if he get jammed. And I won't stop recording, I don't give a damn. It's exhausting. And I'm afraid to go to sleep. I might get shot by the police. If you smart, do it like me. But a nigga should do. Let's see. He did everything by it, but still got flashing lights. He gotta stay calm. Both hands on the wig. 10 and 12, yes sir. No sir. Already got sweaty palms. Saw somebody down. I G got PTSD like he was a numb. God, please don't let me die before my mom. He did everything by, but still got flashing lights. He know they wrong. Go live. Facebook. IG, no sir, no sir. Not turning off his phone. They got him fucked up for trying to search his trunk. He like, hell no, I know the law, and this ain't how it go. It's exhausting. And I'm afraid to go to sleep. I might get shot by the police. If you're smart, do it like me. What a nigga should do. Let's see. Let's see. Let's see. Let's see. When you can't trust the police, that history is so deep. Let's see. Let's see what the history says, and why are we three? More times likely to be killed by the police. I need to see. Let's see. Let's see, let's see. Let's see that wrong step he took when he left home without his knowledge. Made a cop look at him sideways and he feel a way about it. Don't assume he got a weapon. The odds say he don't got it. Just this nine millimeter cell phone in the semi-automatic wallet. Just talk about it, yeah. Let's see. You can't trust what's on the TV. You think we the ones who kill cops? It's more likely you kill me. Like, what do you see? And why do death gotta be so cheap? You feel the threat, so you bring death. What if that was your niece? We might weep tonight, but we know joy coming in the morning. We rejoice. If it's time we get, let go with the morning. What a nigga should do? We ask that question every day. A better question is why we gotta ask in the first place. It's exhausting.
